Posted 11-5-2017 (Dated 11-3-2017) HSTA GIVEAWAY!! Watch this video and enter a contest

Dear Colleagues:

As another work week comes to a close, I’d like to thank you for keeping HSTA strong. More than 97 percent of the teachers across Hawaii are members of HSTA, one of the highest percentages of teacher union membership in the country. Because of our collective effort, we achieved nearly a 14 percent salary increase over the next four years. And today, your paycheck should reflect that effort, with a step increase in your pay.

In spite of these gains, we are reminded of various forces trying to divide and weaken unions. The Janus case, brought by forces backed by anti-public education billionaires, is before the Supreme Court. We need to show our solidarity and fight back to assure HSTA will remain a strong advocate for teachers and our keiki.

So we’d like you to watch a brief video about the Janus Supreme Court case and hear from HSTA teacher leaders about why the union is important to them. To inspire you to share some RED FOR ED photos of you and your colleagues over the next two weeks, we are launching a contest that rewards more entries for posting your photos on Facebook. If you don’t have a Facebook account, you can still submit a RED FOR ED photo and enter the contest. There are several ways to enter to increase your chances of winning three prizes.

Look for more contests and activities over the next year to keep our members engaged and to remind everyone that our collective action can help give our keiki the schools they deserve.

If you don't want to enter the contest, but would still like to watch the HSTA video about the Janus case and hear from teacher leaders, click here.

Aloha,
Corey Rosenlee
HSTA President
