Aloha members: Last week, the State Senate Education Committee heard an important bill ( SB2080) that would limit the number of standardized tests a student shall take in a school year. The proposal would also require the Board of Education to conduct a statewide survey of school administrators and teachers to determine the time spent on preparing for standardized tests and the impact of preparation time on the quality of instruction. During the hearing, the chair of the Senate Education Committee, Senator Michelle Kidani, wanted to know how many standardized tests teachers in Hawaii have to administer and what are teachers' thoughts on the usefulness of those tests. Senator Kidani gave HSTA "homework" to go back and survey our teachers So, we need your help! Could you please take just a few minutes and fill out this brief survey by Sunday, Feb. 11, at 8 p.m.? Take the HSTA standardized testing survey here.Senator Kidani held off decision making on the bill until Monday, Feb. 12 to give us time to get her some testing data. That is why we are asking you to complete this survey quickly. If you could finish the survey by Sunday night, it would greatly be appreciated. The full text of the standardized testing bill is available here.Thank you, Corey Rosenlee HSTA President
