Re: Candidate for HSTA Board of Directors 2018-2020
Aloha, all,
Asking if you're willing to spread the word: Have turned in my official nomination for Hilo Chapter's Board of Director 2018-2021 position, am now announcing my candidacy. HSTA Board of Directors (BOD) are stewards of a tax exempt organization's financial and other resources and it is their fiduciary responsibility to ensure that these resources are utilized in a reasonable, appropriate and legally accountable manner. As a matter of law, HSTA Directors, individually, have these fundamental Duties of Loyalty, Obedience, Candor and Care (LOCC), which I have and would uphold:A. Loyalty to consider and act in good faith to advance HSTA's interests. Thus, the Board and its members must not authorize or engage in transactions except those in which the best possible outcomes or terms for HSTA can be achieved. The Director's duty is to the organization as a whole and not only to his or her local constituents.
B. Obedience to comply with applicable laws, rules and regulations, as well as honoring the terms and conditions of HSTA's tax exempt mission, bylaws, policies and other standards of appropriate behavior.
C. Candor to make candid disclosures of all relevant facts to affected parties and to be able to defend the decision-making process when controversial issues arise.
D. Care to act in the best interests of HSTA and to take the care and exercise the judgment that any reasonable and prudent person would exercise in the process of making informed decisions. The law recognizes that the Board members may not always be correct in their choices and decisions, but it holds them accountable for being attentive, diligent and thoughtful in considering and acting on a policy, course of action or making other decisions.
As our unions prepare for potential Supreme Court action, electing an experienced voice for education matters. Vote Debbie Anderson in 2018 for HSTA Hilo Chapter BOD.
Sincerely,
Debbie Anderson
