Posted 4-6-2019 (Dated 4-1-2019) Settlement reached, updates to your contract

The Hawaii State Teachers Association is pleased to announce that we have reached a supplemental contract agreement with the State of Hawaii and the Board of Education to extend our job-embedded professional development and increase health coverage contributions. The agreement was recommended by the Negotiations Committee and approved by the Board of Directors tonight.
“This agreement is worth more than $45 million for our members in salary increases and employer contributions to our health care plan, while establishing a pilot program to give teachers more control over their 21 hours,” said Paul Daugherty, HSTA Negotiations Committee chair.

Updated salary charts for 2019-20 and 2020-21 (includes 21 hours):
10-month teachers | 12-month teachers
The agreement will:
1. Continue the Employer's 60-percent level of coverage based on the HMSA 80/20 PPO plan (EUTF or VB). This agreement requires an additional $14.5 million in Employer contributions, which helps our members keep up with the rising cost of medical coverage.
2. Maintain 21 hours of additional job-embedded professional development for the school years 2019-20 and 2020-21.
3. Create a pilot program that allows teachers rated highly effective up to seven of their 21 hours toward more self-directed work time.
