“Effective School-Community Collaboration”

The HSTA IPD Department is proud to announce the creation of our first online course.  This class not only marks HSTA’s expansion into statewide online learning opportunities for members, but more importantly, it begins our movement into the creation of “Teacher Leadership” classes focused on leadership development.

Class Start Date: February 20, 2016

Course Description:   This ONLINE 3-PD credit course is offered by the Hawaii State Teachers Association in partnership with the NEA Foundation. In this HSTA Teacher Leadership course focused on Domain 6 of the Teacher Leader Model Standards (Improving Outreach and Collaboration with Families and Community), participants will review the benefits of effective school-community collaboration and plan their own school-community event.  By the end of the course, the teacher leader will understand the impact that families, cultures and communities have on student learning and look for ways to lead successful partnerships between all stakeholders.

DEADLINE:
Class Registration Deadline on PDE3 & PD.HSTA.ORG:  February 4, 2016
Registration Instructions
PDE3 section number: 281199
To register for this class, teachers must complete two steps:

1.  Add themselves to the wait-list on PDE3 pde3.k12.hi.us for this course, “Effective School-Community Collaboration,” AND
2.  Go to pd.hsta.org search for the class, and pay the $150.00 course registration fee
Completing Online Class Work:
Because this is an online course, teachers will be expected to complete and submit their work for the class online via the ‘learning management system’ or online classroom.  Beginning February 5, 2016 teachers who paid for the course will receive an email from the course instructors informing them on how they may log into the class.  An online orientation to the course, including syllabus requirements, will take place at the beginning of the course via Zoom (video conferencing).
